Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan is renowned for his larger-than-life onscreen characters, but offscreen he's become an animal rights activist. Shah Rukh Khan is best known for his larger than life onscreen roles, but off screen, he has become a notable animal rights activist through his work with PETA India. And now in November 2016, the internationally beloved Bollywood star has released a movie titled 'Mahabharata'. The movie is based on the epic Mahabharata story, which takes place in the ancient Indian kingdom of Hastinapur. Now with all the Bollywood embellishments, no one really knows what's true and what's not. But the novel alone was a mammoth task to translate into a film. In an extraordinary feat, actors from India and Hollywood were brought together to bring the story to life. Notable Hollywood stars joining this production include names like Aditi Rao Hydari, Zareen Khan and Vivaan Shah. There are also many Telugu actors as well as a handful of both Hindi and Tamil actors too. The story will portray the journey of the Pandavas after they are forced to leave their home in Hastinapur. They'll create new kingdoms and build families, but eventually find themselves at war with each other once again. And so, the Mahabharata is turned into a historical epic set in ancient India. Shah Rukh Khan has written the screenplay for Mahabharata which was previously known as 'Chandragupta'. The collaborators on this ambitious project include notable names like Mariya Saifuddin, Kamna Ranawat, Ritesh Sidhwani and Farhan Akhtar among others. This is not Shah Rukh Khan's first time working with PETA India though. In fact, he's been a PETA spokesperson for a while now. He's been promoting the adoption of dogs and cats instead of their purchase from breeders or pet shops. This is why he speaks against animal testing in all its forms. He's also called people to be more compassionate towards animals in many interviews over the years. In fact, his love for animals can be traced back to when he was young and living with his family in Mumbai, India. His neighbour had a lot of animals including two dogs that would follow Shah Rukh Khan from place to place from an early age on. Viewers can see the story unfold on their local cinemas by March 2017.
